Photoshoot as an Exotic Japanese Oiran in Kyoto

Oiran was Japanese courtesan (“escort”) who were elegantly dressed in an extravagant kimono and entertained only rich chosen men with traditional Japanese arts. There is even a movie called “Sakuran” about the life of a girl becoming an Oiran. They are characterized by their gorgeous kimono with vibrant colors worn in a sexy way and their glamorous makeup.  Even though Oiran no longer exists in Japan, people still appreciate their gorgeous appearance. Experiencing the dress-up as an Oiran is a very popular attraction in Kyoto for both Japanese and foreign visitors. The photos and the photo album you get from the photoshoot will be a great memory and souvenir of Kyoto.

There are three main photo studios in Kyoto where you can get make up and dress up as an Oiran, and get a private photo shoot either individually, with friends or with your partner. The photos will be taken by professional photographers so you will feel like you are an actress or a model.

Three Biggest Photo Studios

All three studios offer similar plans within a similar price range. All the offered plans include hair & makeup, dressing in at least one kimono, and a photo session by a professional photographer and some printed photos. Depending on the plan, you can try out two types of kimono, you can choose more booths to get a photoshoot in and you can get more printed pictures, albums or data of all the photos. You should have some idea of how many photos you want to pick, how many kimonos you want to try on, whether you want the data of all the photos taken in the photoshoot, whether you want a photo album or just some printed photos. This should help you choose a plan quickly. All of the studios offer information in English on their website. They are all located in a different area in Kyoto so you may want to choose one that is close to your destinations. All of the studios offer sample pictures on their website, so you can also take a look at them and decide which one you want to try out.
